Sandia Peak Ski Area

Sandia Peak Ski Area opened for the season on Saturday, January 24th.  The Sandia Mountains are a mountain range located in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, immediately to the east of the city of Albuquerque.  Opening had been delayed due to lack of sufficient snow, but thanks to the 10 inches of snow that fell on the east side of the Sandia Mountains during the previous week’s storm, the ski area was able to open Saturday with an 18 inch base of powdery snow.  Since it’s only a 45 minute drive from the Albuquerque metro area, we decided to take our grandsons there to try their snowboarding skills.  While only a short drive, the elevation increases from 5,000 feet in Albuquerque to 10,679 feet at the ski area.  We all enjoyed the day and look forward to returning soon.  For more information see www.sandiapeak.com.
