I’ve been reviewing the photos stored on my hard drive and trying to decide which ones to display in my portfolio. During this process I decided to post an article portraying my favorite sunset photos.
This photo of a sailboat backlit by the sun setting behind Boston Harbor is probably my favorite. Due to the speed of the ship and the resultant increasing distance from the sailboat, this was a “one shot” opportunity. In hindsight I would have preferred to open the aperture and lower the ISO, but nonetheless it means a lot to me because back in the day Barbara and I so much enjoyed the quiet and beauty of our summer evening sailing.
It was taken in September 2006 as our cruise ship left Boston enroute to Nova Scotia. Shot in Camera Raw with Nikon D200 camera and Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 zoom lens at 120mm, f/16 aperture, 1/000 second exposure, ISO 400, program mode, matrix metering. Post processing with Photoshop CS6.
This is another cityscape sunset taken from a departing cruise ship. This capture was made in January 2008 as our ship departed Port Everglades bound for Key West and the Caribbean.
Shot in Camera Raw with Nikon D300 camera and Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 zoom lens at 80mm, f/8 aperture, 1/1600 second exposure, ISO 800, program mode, matrix metering. Post processing with Photoshop CS6.
This is another favorite taken at sea while on the same Caribbean Cruise in January, 2008. Shot in Camera Raw with Nikon D300 camera and Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 zoom lens at 44mm, f/14 aperture, 1/800 second exposure, ISO 200, normal program, matrix metering. Post processing with Photoshop CS6.
This capture of the sunset as our cruise ship left the port of Venice in June 2008 is another favorite that brings back fond memories. Shot in Camera Raw with Nikon D300 camera and Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 zoom lens at 105mm, f/13 aperture, 1/640 second exposure, ISO 800, normal program, matrix metering. Post processing with Photoshop CS6.
Such wonderful memories David
